Former Global Chief Security & Privacy Officer at Alliance Data Brings Valuable Experience and Understanding of Large Enterprise Needs to Help Company Deliver Lasting Value to Customers

SAN FRANCISCO — April 21, 2021Abnormal Security, provider of the leading cloud-native email security platform that leverages behavioral data science to stop modern email attacks, today announced the appointment of Mike Britton as Chief Information Security Officer. Mike brings Fortune 500-caliber security leadership experience that will not only drive the company’s security and privacy program but also help influence the development and support of the Abnormal Security platform to ensure it delivers lasting value to customers.

Mike is a 25-year information security veteran who joins Abnormal Security after serving as Global Chief Security and Privacy Officer at Alliance Data, a $4.5 billion provider of data-driven marketing, loyalty and payment solutions. In addition to leading all aspects of Alliance Data’s security and privacy programs, Mike also was an Abnormal Security customer and advisor who was instrumental in the selection, deployment, and successful use of the platform within the company’s environment and global ecosystem.

“As a CISO, it’s always been important for me and my teams to use disruptive solutions that address the greatest risks that enterprises face in new and innovative ways,” said Mike Britton. “Abnormal Security always stood out as an exceptional example from every aspect. The platform was a difference-maker in our environment by providing an advanced degree of protection against sophisticated email attacks that evaded traditional defenses. In addition, the way it engaged, behaved and operated as a customer-obsessed company aligned with my core values and leadership principles. The opportunity to take Abnormal’s security program to the next level while serving as a company advocate in the CISO community is extremely unique and exciting.”

Mike joins Abnormal Security at a time when large enterprises increasingly demand cloud-native email security solutions that are simple to deploy and provide immediate value. Abnormal Security delivers a fundamentally different approach to stopping novel, sophisticated email attacks that were previously undetectable by legacy secure email gateways. Through one-click API integration with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, the Abnormal platform uniquely leverages behavioral data science to profile and baseline good behavior to detect anomalies and compromised accounts, and stop targeted email attacks. The Abnormal AI threat detection engine models the identity of both employees and external senders, creates relationship graphs, and analyzes email content to effectively stop targeted socially engineered attacks.

“Mike is a very experienced executive who has led all aspects of security, governance, risk, and compliance in a high-growth environment at Alliance Data,” said Sanjay Jeyakumar, CTO and co-founder of Abnormal Security. “The security and privacy of our customer data are critically important due to the nature of our business. I can think of no better person who combines the understanding of our platform as a customer with the experience of developing a Fortune 500-level global security program to advance our core mission of maintaining and growing the trust of our customers.”

Mike’s appointment follows recent significant recognition of Abnormal Security for its breakthrough cloud-native email security platform that stops modern email attacks through behavioral data science. Last week, the company was named one of 10 finalists for the RSA Conference 2021 Innovation Sandbox Contest, which came on the heels of its placement on Fast Company’s prestigious annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2021.
