Protecting the Federal Government: Abnormal Achieves In Process FedRAMP Milestone

Abnormal is pursuing FedRAMP Moderate authorization, which enables us to empower federal agencies with AI-native email security against advanced cyber threats.
August 27, 2024

At Abnormal Security, our mission is simple: to protect humans using the power of AI. We take immense pride in delivering a robust email security solution that stops advanced, socially-engineered attacks before they reach inboxes.

Thousands of customers across a wide range of industries trust our solution, but until recently, one key sector was missing from that list—the federal government. To provide truly unified protection across all sectors, we knew expanding our solution to this critical area was essential. That’s why we’ve been diligently pursuing FedRAMP® Moderate authorization, and we're thrilled to announce that we are now officially listed as "In Process" on the FedRAMP Marketplace.

FedRAMP is a government-wide program that provides a risk-based approach for the adoption and use of cloud services by the federal government—thereby empowering agencies to use modern cloud technologies securely. By pursuing FedRAMP authorization, Abnormal is making it possible for federal government organizations to take advantage of our human behavior security platform. With this approval, these agencies can now protect their employees from business email compromise, vendor fraud, phishing, account takeovers, and other advanced attacks.

Enabling the Federal Government with AI-Native Technology

In cybersecurity, AI brings an entirely new level of speed and efficacy to detect and remediate threats—especially as threat actors themselves utilize AI to create more sophisticated attacks than ever before. The demand for modern, cloud-based solutions to counter these advanced threats has never been higher. Yet, federal infrastructure is often weighed down by aging technology, making modernization efforts cumbersome. As a result, new tools must be lightweight, require minimal professional services to implement, and demonstrate immediate time to value.

Within the last year, many federal agencies have issued AI mandates, encouraging their teams to explore ways to integrate AI into daily operations. As such, security teams are looking to introduce AI into the framework of their security initiatives, with a focus on delivering material value to the organization through AI adoption.

While federal agencies are eager for solutions that will solve today’s challenges and scale for tomorrow, acquiring innovative, cloud-based technology can be difficult due to compliance requirements. Some agencies seek waivers to bypass FedRAMP, but this path involves navigating red tape and political risks. With our FedRAMP In Process designation, we help remove these barriers, making it easier for agencies to adopt Abnormal’s cutting-edge solutions for increased email security.

The Significance of In Process

Achieving our FedRAMP In Process designation marks a significant milestone in our commitment to the federal sector. This designation isn’t just a box to check; it’s a clear signal to federal departments and agencies that Abnormal Security is serious about partnering with the government. We understand the challenges of acquiring a FedRAMP sponsor and the dedication needed to operate in this space. Our progress so far demonstrates that we are fully invested in this journey and committed to seeing it through to the end.

While achieving our FedRAMP In Process designation is a significant achievement, our work is far from over. In the coming months, we will collaborate closely with our authorization sponsor, our FedRAMP advisory partner, the Third Party Assessment Organization (3PAO), and the FedRAMP PMO. This process requires patience, ongoing communication, and a steadfast commitment to carrying this initiative to completion.

Looking Ahead on the FedRAMP Journey

It’s important to remember that achieving full cloud security compliance in the federal sector is a journey, not just a destination. At Abnormal Security, we understand this, which is why our pursuit of FedRAMP Moderate is just the beginning. We are already planning for future milestones, including FedRAMP High, Impact Level 5, and beyond. Our goal is to support all federal missions, and we look forward to continuing this journey in the years to come.

Abnormal Security is fully committed to protecting the federal government from advanced cyber threats. We are here for the long haul and are dedicated to building a lasting partnership with the public sector, working together to defeat cyber adversaries who seek to do harm.
