Menlo Ventures has led a $50 million Series B for Abnormal Security, a developer of AI-based email security and threat detection tools. The San Francisco-based company raised a $24 million Series A in November 2019, valuing it at $140 million.

We live in a world where opportunistic cyber-attackers are everywhere. This year, they have leveraged the pandemic, in particular fear surrounding the pandemic, for their own personal gain. In the first 100 days of the outbreak, the number of coronavirus-themed spam messages increased by 26%, while the number of impersonation attacks jumped by 30%. Chris Versace reports.

A cybersecurity startup launched a new platform Tuesday designed to thwart sophisticated scams by identifying abnormal emailing behaviors. Aptly named Abnormal Security, the San Francisco startup aims to use behavior modeling and machine learning to root out suspicious emails that can cost companies big bucks.

Abnormal Security announced that it raised $50 million in Series B venture capital funding. Led by Menlo Ventures, with participation from early investor Greylock, the round brings Abnormal’s total funding to $75 million.
